WHY CAN’T I STOP MAKING THESE PUZZLES UP? WHY SHOULD I?

For the better part of a decade, I have been twisting words and sounds around in my head, uttering unintelligible blabber to my family, who eventually learned to “understand” me. I thank them for tolerating this linguistic whimsy and seeing me for who I really am—loving spouse and father, outdoor enthusiast, funk drummer, and…total word nerd.

I then decided to do a weekly puzzle via email for one year. And I did; I sent out three Chuck-a-Nuts every Friday to about 200 people for 52 weeks straight (see example #45). I loved hitting send on those emails! Once done with that, I thought I had scratched this itch. Yeah, not so much...

Fast forward five years and some 2000-plus spoonerisms later…they just keep coming, like it or not. So I have accepted them as a part of my life, and I figured I may as well share them with the world. They aren’t worth anything just sitting on an Excel file on my computer.

I met an app developer, Benny Sidelinger, by happenstance at our local ski hill (Mt. Baker) and by the time we had gotten off Chair 5, we had this deal penciled out on the back of a ski lodge napkin.

With Benny’s coding expertise and the help of the OG Chuck-a-Nuts beta testers, we whipped this app into shape and are proud to share it with you. I make up one puzzle a day and send it out into the world, and it still thrills me every time. I hope you enjoy it!

Cheers,

Chuck Loos
